What to discover?
There are three distinct districts in Colmar: the Little Venice, the Tanner’s district and the fisher mongers district.
The Little Venice is the most romantic district in Colmar. It owes its name to the way the houses are lined up on either side of the Lauch River.
The Tanner’s district shelters half timbered houses mostly dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The houses were used by tanners for drying out their skins on the open upper floors.
The fisher mongers district is the link between the Tanner's district and the picturesque Little Venice. Up to the beginning of the 20th century, the fishermen would sell their fish, caught locally, on the quay front.
Throughout the whole year, the town is illuminated from nightfall on Fridays and Saturdays. Four themes have been used to create the directing schedule behind these illuminations: water, air, earth and fire. A show not to be missed.
